The Department of Migration and Globalisation understands migration as an integral part of complex processes of internationalisation, globalisation, and social change. Research at the Department contributes to promoting a general understanding of migration as a complex social phenomenon and a social reality and thus supports the social acceptance and political capacity for action in relation to migration-related challenges and opportunities. 

The Department conducts research in three areas (research clusters):

Research Cluster Migration Policy and Governance

The cluster “Migration Policy and Governance” gathers UWK and affiliated researchers who study the formation and development of migration governance systems, the actors, content and processes underlying the wide range of policy areas involved in attracting, admitting, selecting, controlling, or deterring migrants, and their impact.

Migration Processes and Drivers

The research cluster brings together a group of researchers at the University for Continuing Education Krems (UWK) who are interested in understanding what drives (im)mobilities across the globe in a context of (de-)globalisation and economic and political (dis)integration processes. The cluster aims at providing an open space to share and discuss work-in-progress as well as emerging ideas, among UWK colleagues and beyond.

Research Cluster Integration and Social Cohesion

The integration and social cohesion research group explores various facets associated with the incorporation of migrants into receiving societies and different societal domains, including employment, education, housing, and health, as well as broader aspects of civic participation and legal inclusion.
