Description
The project “Textiles in Armenian Manuscripts and Printed Books” explores the role of textiles in Armenian manuscripts and printed books. Although textiles have long been recognized as part of bookbinding, they have rarely been studied systematically as elements of book structure, craftsmanship, and book cultural history.
By documenting and analysing textiles used in bindings, decorations, and repairs, the project aims to better understand their functions and meanings within Armenian book culture. The research combines the study of digitized manuscripts and printed books with the examination of original fabric.
The project seeks to reveal patterns in the use of textiles that may shed light on historical bookbinding practices, cultural exchange within the regions where Armenian books were produced and preserved and conservation traditions.
