Since 2006, the Department of Clinical Neurosciences and Preventive Medicine has had the mission of conducting medical-university research and continuing education in all clinical areas of neurosciences and preventive medicine.

Clinical neuroscience is now a research focus for quite a few postgraduate universities. This is necessary to keep pace with the growth of research and clinical knowledge, as well as to meet the medical and societal needs of the growing incidence and prevalence rates of neurological diseases.

Preventive medicine is a neglected area in undergraduate medical education, but it represents an indispensable part of clinical practice. Prevention is therefore also a postgraduate focus. Preventive measures are intended to prevent the development of diseases, to force the early detection of diseases and to minimize the consequences of already existing diseases.

The Department therefore aims to carry out research and further education in these areas and to implement them in an Austria-wide and European context.
