Functions

Peter Parycek is Vice-Rector for Educational Affairs / Academic Continuing Education and Digital Transformation (CDO) at the University for Continuing Education Krems (Danube University Krems) and, as University Professor for E-Governance, heads the Department for E-Governance in Business and Administration. Since 2017, he has been leading the Competence Center Public IT (ÖFIT) at the Fraunhofer Fokus Institute Berlin, funded by the German Federal Ministry of the Interior. In August 2018, he was appointed by Chancellor Angela Merkel to the Digital Council of the German Federal Government. The nine-member body of international experts advises the German federal government in direct dialog.


Together with Univ.-Prof. Dr. Gerald Steiner, he is scientific co-lead of GovLabAustria, which was founded with the Federal Chancellery and offers an interdisciplinary experimental space for administration, civil society and business at the interface of theory and practice.
As a legal informatician, Peter Parycek works inter- and transdisciplinarily at the intersection of technical, legal and societal developments. His research focuses on the transformation of the public sector. 
Peter Parycek is a board member of the IFIP Working Group 8.5, which organizes one of the leading conferences in the e-government domain. He is also a steering board member of ICEGOV, a board member of the National E-Government Center (NEGZ) in Germany, and active in numerous other international conferences as a track chair, program committee member, or reviewer. He is also a member of the supervisory board of DigitalService, an in-house software development unit of the federal government, which develops digital solutions for and with the federal administration in Germany. Parycek is a member of the advisory board of the Austrian Research Foundation (ÖFG) and a member of the working group "Sovereignty and Security of Science in the Digital Space" of the German Science Council. He also advises governments and national and international institutions such as the Council of Europe.
