- Non-marine ostracod paleobiology, paleoecology, paleobiogeography, phylogeny
- Applied paleobiology of non-marine ostracod reproductive and dispersal mechanisms
- Origin and evolution of non-marine ostracods
- Theoretical, practical and applied taxonomy
- Integrated stratigraphy (incl. biostratigraphy, chemostratigraphy, cyclostratigraphy) with focus on Cretaceous non-marine aquatic ecosystems
- Paleoclimatology and climate change, ocean-land interactions and its impact on life and the hydrological circle with focus on the Cretaceous
