Beschreibung

The DARIAH-DASTIN project innovates an institution-level participant architecture for the Archive of Digital Art (https://www.digitalartarchive.at) that bridges the gap between artist-producers of Digital Media Art and its heritage-preservationists in laboratories, museums, and universities. To enhance service affordances, a new research tool will encompass 1) keyword metadata, 2) profile pages, and 3) networking platform. The aim of this important step towards the integration of Institutions within the ADA archivalstrategy is to inspire effective interconnections between the DARIAH-EU infrastructure and pan-European Digital Humanities. As both medium and subject, Digital Media Art uses emergent technologies that originate from industry and science, tactically evolving the very borders between these cultural sectors. This distinguishes the “new” media from “traditional” arts such as painting and sculpture. Because of its critical role in scientific discovery and technological development, Digital Art has profound relevance for our accelerating societies today. But Digital Art also relies upon these very institutional resources for its computer coding, financial foundation, interactive installation, or research residency; and consequently, on cooperations with Institutions providing these spaces. Yet, as advocated for by the 450 world-leaders in Digital Cultural Heritage from 40 countries who signed the Liverpool Declaration (http://www.mediaarthistory.org/declaration), a sustainable platform is needed that coordinates both knowledge-maintenance and human expertise. Towards this goal, DARIAH-DASTIN will allow Digital Humanists to for the first time research the cross-cultural, inter-medial and trans-historical Institutional Histories of Digital Art. Further, Artist and Scholar stakeholders, and now Institutions at the cutting-edge of the digital world, will benefit from greater communication and visibility.
