General job description

The tenure track position is focused on research, however the successful candidate is also expected to contribute to teaching and administration. Upon selection, a qualification agreement to be agreed upon with the review committee will outline the specific responsibilities for the next four to max. six years. It is expected that the successful candidate will develop a unique research profile during this time. After positive evaluation, a successful candidate will be awarded a tenured position as Associate Professor.

Your tasks

  • Taking a lead role in international systematic reviews, rapid reviews, and methods research
  • Securing research grants
  • Teaching evidence-based medicine and evidence syntheses methods 
  • Supervising graduate and undergraduate students in the competition of their final theses and projects
  • Administering examinations
  • Collaborating with methods groups at Cochrane
  • Delivering presentations at scientific events and congresses
  • Engagement in the PhD program
  • Authoring and co-authoring research publications
  • Mentoring junior researchers

To be considered for the position, the following selection criteria must be met

  • Completed doctoral degree in health care or health services research (such as medicine, public health, psychology, nursing science)
  • Established scientific track record, including publications and presentations in the field of evidence synthesis
  • Demonstrated experience in conducting systematic and rapid reviews
  • Proven experience in conducting methods research related to evidence synthesis
  • Teaching experience
  • Prior knowledge of and experience in the application of statistical software in the context of meta-analyses (e.g., SPSS, R, Stata, Unipark, etc.)
  • Excellent English skills equivalent to C1 proficiency

Desirable scientific expertise should include

  • Proven experience in scientific project management (e.g., as PI or Co-PI)
  • Demonstrated experience in developing and establishing research and teaching partnerships with both national and international partners 
  • Successful acquisition of third-party funding at the national and/or international level
  • Involvement with international institutions in the field of evidence-based medicine and evidence synthesis (such as Cochrane, Campbell, Joanna Briggs Institute)

Your perspective

The University of Krems is committed to supporting the successful candidate during the qualification period of four to six years. We will provide the necessary resources and opportunities to meet the requirements of the qualification agreement and obtain a tenured Associate Professorship. As such, the position of Assistant Professor is initially limited to four to six years, depending on the nature of the appointment. For part-time positions, the duration of the role is limited to six years.

The remuneration for this Assistant Professorship will be EUR 5,124.20 gross per month on a full-time basis (according to the collective agreement of the universities §49 VwGr. A2). Higher salary may be agreed upon, depending on the applicant’s qualifications and experience. The successful candidate may work part-time (minimum 25 hours per week) and will be awarded a permanent position as an Associate Professor after the successful completion of the qualification agreement within the given time frame.

There is the possibility of working remotely for up to 42% of working hours.
