From 29 September to 3 October 2025, the Center for Cultural Property Protection, in cooperation with the Office of Cultural Affairs of the Principality of Liechtenstein and the National Defence Academy, will once again host the Cultural Property Protection Course at the University for Continuing Education Krems, under the auspices of the European Security and Defence College (ESDC).
Effective crisis management requires both solid expertise and highly trained personnel. The ESDC plays a key role in this regard by fostering the development of qualified professionals and building a network of experienced crisis managers.
The aim of the ESDC - Cultural Property Protection Course is to raise awareness of the importance of protecting cultural property and heritage within the scope of EU activities. Furthermore, it promotes an integrated and holistic approach to cultural property protection in crisis situations - such as armed conflicts - based on best practices. During the course, participants will identify and analyze challenges to cultural property protection and will be equipped with tools to address these issues.
The ESDC - Cultural Property Protection Course offers the opportunity to deepen your expertise, strengthen practical skills, and connect with experts from civil society, the military, and operational organizations.
Participation and Registration
Each EU Member State has designated national nominators who are responsible for selecting candidates from among applicants originating from EU Member States, EU institutions, and EU agencies.

In addition, the Center for Cultural Property Protection offers a limited number of course seats as part of the Certificate Program "Cultural Property Protection and Disaster Response, CP" and the Micro-Credential Program "International Cultural Property Protection, MCP" for the ESDC Cultural Property Protection Course, conducted at the University for Continuing Education Krems. This course is also exclusively open to civilians and members of emergency services.
The “Cultural Property Protection and Disaster Response, CP” is a stackable program and can be credited towards the Master’s program "Cultural Property Protection, MSc (CE)".
Participants of the CP are guaranteed a seat in the ESDC - Cultural Property Protection Course. Remaining seats will be allocated to participants of the MCP on a first-come, first-served basis.
